Workshop 2:
Standing Poses
Ever wonder why it’s called “Mountain Pose”? We start with the basics of standing poses by guiding you through the principles of alignment to build each standing pose from the feet to the crown of the head. There’s a lot more to standing on two feet than you may ever have thought of and we’re here to show you.
Following on the alignment principles of the Mountain Pose, we break down two of the Warrior Poses in great detail for you to understand the differences between an “open hip” pose and a “closed hip” pose and how to arrange your joints and bones and adjust the poses in a way that suits your body shape.
Does it feel challenging to raise your hands above your head in Warrior I? We have some tips on how to feel a little more at ease. Not sure how to align your feet in Warrior II? Let us show you some options. And if you have no idea what any of these poses are yet, you’ll become very familiar with these shapes to confidently attend any yoga class!
The Triangle Pose feels a lot lighter when you have options of where to place your hands and how to adjust your hips and we’ll show you some great options of how to use yoga props to make the pose more comfortable in your own body.
And lastly, even though we associate a chair with a sitting pose, the Chair Pose (or Awkward Pose) is another regular in a vinyasa practice that can place strain on your joints unless you know how to safely modify the pose to find more ease in the shape.
