Workshop 3:
Seated Poses
We start the Seated Poses workshop with a Seated Forward Bend or Paschimottanasana (mouthful!) Did you know that your body applies something called “reciprocal inhibition” and by learning the mechanics of our bones and muscles, we can unlock the intended benefit of this calming pose?
The Cobbler’s Pose or more commonly known Butterfly Pose is a shape that will look dramatically different in each individual body and has everything to do with your pelvis. With the help of some props and options, we will show you how to make this pose feel great in your body, no matter what the shape of your pelvis is.
How do you find more space to deepen into a Seated Twist? How can your breath guide you into a deeper shape? And how can you adjust your gaze to take strain out of your neck? These are all topics we cover to help you discover the benefits of twists.
The final pose we dissect in this workshop is the 1/2 Pigeon Pose, which is a glorious stretch deep into the hip and buttocs, but can possibly be very uncomfortable in your knee joints. By using a variety of prop options or arranging your pose with different alignment options, you can access the deep sensations intended in this pose without unnecessary strain.
